Tips on Hebbal vet Hospital

Hebbal Veterinary College Hospital
Hebbal Veterinary College Hospital

A informal note from our Nandita Subba Rao on the Hebbal Vet Hospital that I thought was useful information and reading . I read her practical Hebbal guide on one of the squad WhatsApp groups to a newcomer to Blr and to rescue, who had two injured pups - and thought I’d share her tips ..

“Actually Hebbal veterinary hospital is better equipped than the Queen's road one. Neither has boarding. Boarding makes up a huge part of the bill. If someone can foster, you can probably finish the surgery for under 10k.

Please remember that it's a very government-y place -- unsmiling doctors, bossy attenders; accept only cash, no UPI, etc. Re timings, The counter is open from 9.30 to 11.45 am, that's it. They will start looking antsy at 11.30 and shut the window in your face at 11.45.

BUT they are competent, and the surgery department is pretty good. Also, because this is a government hospital, they all just work for a salary, so there is no great incentive for them to put you through elaborate and expensive tests and repeat visits -- they will be kind of glad to see the back of you! 😅 So they will also try to treat in such a way that you don't have to keep going back.

Process When you register, they will ask what the problem is, or which department. You can say you need to go to the Surgery department. When you walk in after registration (they give you a token number as well), the Surgery department is on the left, and the general OPD on the right.

Outside each area is a badly kept grassy patch, but the peon will yell at you if your dog pees or poops or throws up there.🙄 So please try to get the pup to finish messing up on the lawns facing the building, not once you get in!

Also, remember that this is attached to the veterinary college, so it's the standard procedure (like a teaching hospital) that a student will first ask you questions pertaining to the case and make notes in the file. The senior vet will then come along and ask the student what s/he has found so far, and then this senior will take a look.

If you’re new and Kannada is n issue I have given you the most accurate/ worst possible scenario, so you are prepared; you will learn the ropes! Besides, once you get in, all the students and senior vet will speak with you in English.”

It helped the new rescuer immensely to understand approach and navigate. .

Thanks Nandita .

To be continued .
