The CJ Memorial Trust, Bangalore, is delighted to announce the launch of its 7th annual #CollarsNotColors campaign, urging citizens to celebrate a safe and compassionate Holi on March 14th. This initiative, now in its seventh year, aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of Holi colors on animals and promote a responsible and joyful celebration for both humans and our furry friends.
While Holi is a vibrant festival of colors and rejuvenation, it's crucial to remember that the colors we use, even those marketed as "natural," can be toxic to animals. These substances can cause severe skin irritation, eye damage, and digestive issues if ingested, amounting to animal cruelty and violating the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act.
The CJ Memorial Trust's #CollarsNotColors campaign directly addresses this issue by advocating for a simple yet impactful alternative: reflective collars. Instead of applying potentially harmful colors to street dogs and pets, we encourage everyone to adorn them with reflective collars. This not only ensures their safety but also adds a fun, visible element to the festive spirit.
Member Secretary, SPCA, Blr Urban Dr Chandrashekar T asserts : “sharing awareness regarding the impact of Holi colours on animals, its underlying cruelty and providing an alternate way of celebrating is an excellent initiative by CJMT. We strongly urge people to be aware and action this effort’
"Holi should be a celebration for all beings, a time of joy and togetherness," says Priya Chetty-Rajagopal of The CJ Memorial Trust. "For seven years, we've championed the #CollarsNotColors message, reminding people that compassion and celebration can go hand-in-hand. We are grateful for the previous support and advisories from the SPCA and KAWB, and we are confident that this year, we will reach even more people with this vital message."
The campaign emphasizes that applying colors to animals is not just harmful but also a violation of animal welfare laws. The CJ Memorial Trust encourages everyone to be mindful of the impact of their actions and to choose a safer, more responsible way to celebrate.
